The Akari Light Sculptures by Isamu Noguchi began in 1951 and marked a lasting creative partnership allowing democratic access to a range of artworks by the highly respected sculptor.
Handmade in the traditional manner by leading lantern makers, Ozeki, in Gifu prefecture and using washi paper, the light sculptures are a fusion of Japanese handicraft and modernist forms.
