Although launched in 1967, the Cylinda-lines conception began three years earlier at a family dinner at Arne Jacobsen's. Arne Jacobsen's stepson, Peter Holmblad, who was also the owner of Stelton, asked Jacobsen to create a complete series for Stelton that would include everything for the home bar. Jacobsen was initially hesitant due to his busy schedule, but after Holmblad showed him his sketches, Jacobsen began developing these ideas further.

" I knew that when Arne saw my own inadequate sketches, he would instinctively make corrections. He could not stand the sight of ugly design." - Peter Holmblad
