Artek 2nd Cycle, 2012

twentytwentyone worked with Artek and designer Philippe Malouin in the creation of the Artek stand and Design Junction café during the London Design Festival in 2012.

twentytwentyone supplied vintage tables and chairs acquired from the Aalto-designed University of Technology in Helsinki.

"Nothing old is ever reborn, but neither does it totally disappear. And that which has once been born will always reappear in a new form."
Alvar Aalto

The original furniture was made available during a refit and provided the basis for a themed display of black Artek furniture, married with Golden Bell lighting and a screen-printed plywood panels designed by Malouin in the stand build.

The mix of vintage and current, licensed productions echos the mix defined by twentytwentyone since the company’s inception in 1996. It is one shared with Artek, through their 2nd Cycle campaign, employed to raise awareness of the longevity of good design.
