Despite their geographical distance, Finland and Japan share sensibilities in pursuing a love of nature, its influence on design, beauty, simplicity, minimalism, and a profound respect for quality in materials and craftsmanship.

Beyond design, the connections go on through shared work ethics valuing diligence, and dedication to wellbeing practices deeply rooted in society, as seen in onsen and sauna culture.

These shared connections demonstrate the potential for cross-cultural appreciation and sparked an idea to exhibit the work of these leading protagonists of Japanese and Finnish design in one harmonious environment.

Fiskars | Gifu | Hiroshima - The Craft & Design of Maruni, Nikari, Ozeki & Co. and Woodnotes takes place at twentytwentyone's River Street showroom, showcasing furniture, lighting and objects that explore the connections between the two cultures.

Maruni from Hiroshima, Japan, presents works by Cecilie Manz, Jasper Morrison and Naoto Fukasawa.

Nikari from Fiskars, Finland, includes designs from Alvar Aalto, Joanna Laajisto, Cecilie Manz, Rudi Merz, Jasper Morrison, John Pawson, and Kari Virtanen.

Woodnotes from Helsinki, Finland, exhibits the newly launched Willow rug by Claesson Koivisto Rune alongside works by pioneering designer Ritva Puotila.

Ozeki & Co from Gifu, Japan, present a new mini table version of the Hotaru lighting range by Barber Osgerby designed exclusively for twentytwentyone.
