The Robin Day Reclining chair was awarded Best Reissue. The authoritative panel of judges was selected from an international field, so the award is a great honour. It reflects the quality and longevity of Robin Day’s design.
Robin designed the chair in 1952, and always considered it to be one of his most successful designs. It offers high levels of comfort, and the sculpted oak armrests, which provide small ‘tables’ as well as support, make the chair both distinctive and functional.
twentytwentyone are privileged to have worked with Robin Day on both new and historic designs. Work on the reintroduction of the Reclining chair started during his lifetime. Sadly he died in November 2010 before it was launched.
Paula Day said of the prize: ‘It’s a tribute to Dad but also to you for carrying the project through. I’m sure he would have been very pleased and grateful’.
