Martinhal Beach Resort

Martinhal Beach Resort and Hotel is a luxury family resort, set within a protected natural park on the southern tip of Portugal’s unspoiled Algarve coast.

The site was developed by Roman and Chitra Stern, in collaboration with Nigel Chapman and Nicholas Dickinson, in order to combine a modern boutique hotel with a family orientated resort.

The 38-room hotel and 132-house resort were designed by architects Conran & Partners alongside local practice JLTP Architectura. Inspired by the naturally rugged character of the site and its spectacular sea views, the aspiration was to design a complex that appeared to have grown organically from the landscape, in contrast to the more formulaic resorts found along the coast.

twentytwentyone were asked to advise the principle resort designer, Carole Taylor of Four Winds Resorts, on furniture, lighting and accessories and won the contract to supply most of the items used in the resort's public areas.

This included furniture and lighting for the hotel and resort receptions, three restaurants, creche and spa areas as well as lighting and accessories for the resort houses and hotel rooms. twentytwentyone also supplied much of the poolside and al fresco dining furniture.

In addition, Michael Sodeau designed bespoke furniture and lighting for the hotel and resort houses, manufactured by Modus.
