Ilkka Suppanen

Ilkka Suppanen (b. 1968) studied architecture at the Helsinki University of Technology and interior and furniture design at the Helsinki School of Art and Design. His studio provides strategic and comprehensive design and his clients include Artek, Axis, Cappellini, Ferlea, Leucos, Lucente, Nokia, Zanotta, Marimekko and Saab Automobiles.


Suppanen's interest in different production techniques, materials and their use is evident in his work. His expression is light, it looks forward yet clearly continues the classic Nordic design tradition. Suppanen says that the best design brings added value to the entire production chain, starting from the consumer's needs right up to the finished product. He appreciates long-term projects where innovation is present.


Ilkka Suppanen's work has been exhibited around the world, from the Venice Biennale, and the Milan international furniture exhibition to MoMa in New York. His work has been included in the permanent collections of many museums, such as the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
