Ivar Ålenius Björk

Ivar Ålenius Björk (1905 – 1978) was a Swedish sculptor, predominantly known for his bust portraits and public statuary that can be seen in towns throughout Sweden.


 


Born in Malmö, he trained as an artist at the city's school of painting, but also studied Engineering in Copenhagen before concluding his art training at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.


in 1939 he designed the Lily candlestick, now widely recognised as a classic of Swedish design. Often imitated, this elegantly minimal candle holder is now produced by master-metalworkers of Skultuna Messingbruk.
