Social Togetherness: Michael Anastassiades

Michael Anastassiades; Where’s home for you?

I live on a small market street behind Waterloo station. It is a terraced house with a shop on the ground floor. For years this was also my studio and where I started my brand of lighting until there was no more space to host everyone and moved my team over to Camden. As a designer, it is impossible to separate work from my personal life. I carry my ideas wherever I go.

What are the highlights of your home-working day?

My daily routine starts with my Yoga practice which I have managed to rediscover after the lockdown. I used to teach yoga for 15 years before starting my brand. I touch base with my team only twice a day and I can now have more time sketching. It is also great to eat well and live only on home cooking.

What creative pursuits are you doing now that you ordinarily wouldn’t manage?

Times like these encourage you to reflect on your role as a creative. It is not a particularly new process for me as I have always questioned my practice.

What positive change might come from Covid-19?

We need to practice more from a place of generosity rather than from a place of greed.

Any interesting projects, exhibitions or launches for later this year that you can share?

We have missed a year of Salone del Mobile, so the next one in April 2021 will be something to really look forward to. It is a year ahead to allow enough time for the world to heal.

Thank you to Michael for taking the time to talk to us, our Social Togetherness series continues next week.
