OMK 1965

British designer Rodney Kinsman founded OMK in 1965 to produce a range of pioneering designs now considered classics of the British high-tech movement.

OMK 1965

Newly relaunched as OMK 1965, the company presents a new collection of Kinsman’s iconic designs including the celebrated Omkstak chair

Kinsman designed this lightweight, stackable and highly adaptable chair in 1972, and it has subsequently been added to the permanent collections of twentieth-century furniture at V&A, the Design Museum in London and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

With a minimal tubular steel frame supporting a seat and back made of pressed steel with emphatic circular perforations, The Omstak chair blends functionality and simplicity in a form that celebrates the materials and technologies used to make it.

OMK 1965 are marking the 45th anniversary of this lightweight and stackable design by producing it in a fresh new palette of colours. A timeless chair with a firm following amongst design enthusiasts, Omkstak has a durability and adaptability that suits it for both domestic and contract use. And if the new palette of colours wasn’t enough, it is also available in a classic version which features the chrome frame and contrasting coloured seat and back of the original 1972 design.

Also available from twentytwentyone is Kinsman’s Orbit mirror. This striking design combines a large wall-mounted circular mirror with a smaller vanity mirror positioned on a swing arm much like a satellite orbiting a planet.

The vanity mirror has both a regular and a magnifying side and swivels through 180° to offer views of the back or side of the head.

The Orbit mirror is currently on display at our Upper Street shop while the Omkstak chairs can be viewed at our River Street showroom.
