Observer ceramic vessels by Aman Khanna.
Please note: because of the unique nature of these designs and their inherent fragility it is not possible to order them online. However, the full range may be viewed at our shop.
Aman Khanna's Observers are unique and sculptural stoneware vessels that form part of his Claymen series: a continuing exploration of the nature of identity, selfhood and what it means to be human in the world.
Each Observer is hand sculpted from clay. Khanna creates a unique expression for each one with a deft and minimal hand, using a simple series of universal features to create a profound sense of character which is immediately appealing.
Whether used as a single decorative ornament or aranged in a crowd, Observer vessels have a compelling presence that encourages thoughtful consideration.
The use of unadorned clay bears particular significance for the artist. Khanna notes that "clay is a simple, everyday raw material used by everyone. Sun dried, half-baked in an open fire - clay is omnipresent and yet individual in the way one uses it."
Each member of the Observer family is unique - some have a tripod base, some have four legs, some have an elongated neck and some have multiple heads; the images shown above are representative only. The entire collection can be viewed and purchased at our Upper Street shop.
