Large Serving spoon by Hope in the Woods.
Working under the name Hope in the Woods, designer-maker Luke Hope handcrafts a unique family of wooden spoons and tableware that are as utilitarian as they are decorative and marked by a compelling tactile quality.
Of his work, Hope says, "I love the calm of the process... working with an organic material, revealing natural form and creating and blending new lines and shape."
The Large Serving spoon is hand-carved from dark walnut wood and finished with food-safe mineral oil and organic beeswax. Hope in the Woods designs are made by hand from responsibly sourced wood which has been foraged, recycled, reclaimed or sustainably grown.
If correctly cared for, your wooden spoon will last a very long time. Do not wash in the dishwasher and avoid soaking in any liquid for too long. To clean, use warm water and a bit of soap if necessary. Wooden kitchenware also benefits from being treated from time to time: to do so, simply wash, dray and then apply a wood balm or appropriate oil (the use of mineral, linseed or walnut oil if appropriately food-safe is recommended).
Each piece has been finished to ensure it should not become furry with use, as heavily used wooden kitchenware sometimes can. If this occurs, simply wash, dry and rub with fine sandpaper. Follow by treating with balm or oil, as above.
Please note that as each Hope in the Woods item is individually worked by hand from a natural material, each may differ very slightly in appearance and dimensions from the images shown. In addition, certain foods and heavy use may change the colouration of the wood. This natural process is unavoidable and is part of the charm of owning and using a wooden kitchen utensil.
