Hogla handwoven fruit basket by Maison Bengal.
Maison Bengal is a social enterprise that works with marginalised communities in Bangladesh to provide local women with a dependable source of income. Using traditional hand-weaving techniques and locally sourced materials, Maison Bengal supports community workshops in producing a range of woven goods for house and home.
The Hogla basket derives its single-handled form from the containers locally used for gathering fruit.
The basket is woven using leaves from the Hogla plant - also known as seagrass. These durable natural fibres are traditionally used to weave sleeping and prayer mats and to reinforce the walls of huts, as well as being used to make a variety of baskets and containers.
Handmade in Bangladesh using natural materials.
Please note that as all Maison Bengal products are handmade measurements may vary slightly.
