PK25 chair, 1951

PK25 lounge chair by Poul Kjaerholm by Fritz Hansen.

The classic PK25 lounge chair, also known as the ‘Element’ chair, was designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1951 for his final graduation project at the School of Applied Arts in Copenhagen.

The chair is a great example of Kjaerholm’s extraordinary work with common, industrial materials. The aim with the design was to reduce the chair to a single piece of each material, resulting in the hallmark of the chair - a continuous and complex steel frame bent in a single piece without any joints or connections.
