Planophore is a room divider and bookshelf that takes its name from the first mass-produced model aeroplane powered by twisted elastic bands. The shelving unit is divided into a series of compartments by vertical elements with a rounded form reminiscent of an aerofoil, hence the connection with the model aeroplane.
This highly flexible unit of furniture can be tuned to suit its specific setting. A series of horizontal wood shelves are supported by vertical aluminium fins that can be rotated. When these fins are positioned parallel to the shelves, Planophore becomes a screen that can be used to partition a room. Fins can equally be rotated to open up a series of compartments of varying sizes to store and display books and objects. In this way Planophore can be customised as required, making it uniquely adaptable.
Shelves are made of 3.2cm solid wood with an oiled finish, while the vertical panels are made of extruded aluminium. The panels can be rotated from -118° to +126°.
Planophore is available in two different finishes: natural oak shelves with anodised natural matt aluminium vertical panels and smoked oak shelves with basic dark aluminium panels.
Planophore stands on a tubular steel base, powder-coated in deep black with a textured finish. Glides are die-cast aluminium powder-coated in deep black with felt inserts and levelling adjustment.
Planophore is available in a high and a low model (see 'More products in this range' below), and in two different widths, slim and wide.
