Description

Peanut keyring by Carl Auböck for Sigmar.

Carl Auböck is today recognised as one of the leading lights of Viennese modernism. Inheriting his father's metal-working business, he proceeded to bring a distinctive new modern sensibility to the traditional bronze figures known as Wiener Bronzen (collectible trinkets and souvenirs, often in the form of animals).

Exquisitely made, profoundly tactile and often evincing a whimsical humour, Auböck's designs of the 1940s and 50s were to become much sought-after cult objects, collected by modernist luminaries such as Walter Gropius and Charles and Ray Eames.

Cast in solid brass, the Peanut keyring has all of the hallmarks of an Auböck design: beautifully crafted, a delight to hold and possessed of an almost surrealist humour.

Handmade in Austria in the family-run Werkstätte Carl Auböck.
