A limited edition of four new framed prints by celebrated designer Pierre Charpin.
Each print is produced in an edition of 75, numbered and signed by the artist. All prints are window-mounted in a solid oak frame with bevelled edge.
Of the edition, Charpin says: “The drawings were created during a residency at Villa Kujoyama in 2012, in a hillside workshop on the edge of a forest to the east of Kyoto. Using a bottle of ink and medium quality brushes I bought at one of the famous local 100-yen shops, I would draw daily.
I had primarily concerned myself with the natural elements of the landscape and not living beings. So I drew the monkeys rather unexpectedly ... three days before my departure, spontaneously, with fast intuitive gestures.
I did not seek to produce realistic portraits, but to produce signs that can primarily express their animality. Also, their different personalities that I had noticed when I observed them in silence. Some seemed sympathetic, or more aggressive, or thoughtful, or questioning, some joyful or rather sad ... so remarkably similar to ourselves.”
