This cabinet reflects typical philosophies and design elements from twentieth-century Danish cabinet makers. There is a marriage of historical and classical features in its simple modernist outline. The leg structure, with six uprights and connecting rails, can be traced to 17th Century dressers and a similar configuration was used by Kaare Klint during the 1930s in his cabinets for Rud. Rasmussen. The pulls for the drawers and doors pay homage to regency furniture designs.
The reworking of historical influences was a common trait in many Danish designer’s work, and Klint, Wegner, Mogensen and Juhl openly expressed inspiration of prior movements and antique furniture.
This cabinet otherwise adopts very modern detailing with a flat front and strict rectilinear form. The central bank of drawers and symmetrical door arrangement may suggest a traditional hinged door arrangement, but in fact, they are set within the frame and slide across the drawer fronts.
