Obello portable table lamp, 1971

Obello portable table lamp by Bill Curry for Gubi.

The Obello Lamp is one of Bill Curry's first 'total look' lamps. Designed in 1971, the single glass form eliminates the need for a separate base. Resembling a mushroom, Curry took inspiration from the atomic age, space race and pop culture that would go on to define the 70s Los Angeles.

Half a century later, Gubi, using their innovative design and production techniques, is reintroducing the lamp as a potable version with endorsement from the designer's family.

The lamp features a frosted mouth-blown glass shade with an integrated dimmable LED light source. The lamp is rechargeable with 40 hours of light with a full charge and can be moved anywhere.

Obello is sure to create a cosy atmosphere while making a strong statement. The dimmer switch allows you to control light emanating from the two LEDs, one brighter bulb facing upwards and a dimmer bulb facing downwards into the lamp’s stem.

Although the lamp should be stored and charged indoors only, the IP 44-rated lamp can be used outdoors and is splash-proof. It can withstand the odd rain shower, sand, and soil.
