The Hardy series is a range of chairs and tables inspired by Thomas Hardy's poem Old Furniture, an ode to the beauty of furniture being handed down the generations.
“At the start of the poem Hardy reminisces about old family furniture passed down through generations and I drew parallels here with my own work.” Irwin explains.
Two chair typologies from the 19th century, Thomas Hardy's birth century, inspired its design: firstly the Captain's chair originally a low-backed wooden armchair and secondly, the Smokers bow, a low back Windsor, often used in smoking rooms, public houses, barbers shops and cottages.
Featuring soft curves, this solid wood coffee table comes with a bottom shelf for additional storage space.
