Warren Platner, armchair, 1966

Warren Platner armchair.

The Platner Collection was designed in 1966 and has been in continuous production by Knoll International. An elegant and unique design with an exposed structure that becomes a decorative and distinctive feature of the chair. The Platner Chair rises from a single pedestal through elegant waisted base to organic and sculptural seat. The transparency and form create seminal range of furniture.

The production process for the complex construction was conceived by Warren Platner. Each chair requires over 1000 individual welds to fuse the nickel-plated steel rods.

Platner designed a family of lounge and dining chairs with associated dining and side tables. The collection soon became icons of their era and have since achieved classic status.

Warren Platner trained as an architect, working with world leading practices including Raymond Loewy, Eero Saarinen and IM Pei. His own practice created important interiors projects including the Georg Jensen showroom in 1968 and Windows on the World restaurant in the World Trade Center in 1976.

Dimensions:
73w x 55d x 49/75cmh
