This item is a one-off clearance item to be sold on a first order, first served basis.

The Q-Stak was originally created in response to a challenge to produce an economical and functional, multipurpose chair. The Hillestak of 1950 employed more than twenty elements, and in order to cut costs the design for Q-stak reduced the component count to seven.

The monoshell seat took the ergonomic considerations of the Hillestak and the Festival Hall plywood family to a single form with generous radius to corners and handhold for easy management. The design had subtle personality and sold well.

The Q-Swivel was added to the family in 1954 and with upholstery cover to provide greater comfort the swivel base provided flexibility and height adjustment. The design for the base pays gentle reference toVictorian era factory seating, in a simple modern manner.

Despite a long production period for Q-Stak, Q-Rod and Q-Swivel, the application to heavy use and commercial environments mean period examples in original condition are scarce.

The Q-Stak is present in the V&A Collection and recently featured in Plywood; Material of the Modern World
