The 48 chair was first presented at the Cabinet Maker's Guild exhibition in 1948. Although not the first collaboration between Finn Juhl and maker Niels Vodder, the design was deemed by one commentator to have reached 'a new level, best classified as a new school of design.'
The craftsmanship behind this chair comes from Finn Juhl's emphasis on the Gesamtkunstwerk, or an aesthetic whole created through attention to detail in every aspect of the piece. It features a strong yet delicate poise, with ergonomic seat cushions that hug the figure of the sitter whilst providing ample support. The chair has an organic expression, with gently curved lines that make it equally well suited to traditional or contmeporary interiors.
A solid wood frame supports the 'floating' upholstered seat and back. The 48 chair is made of solid oak with armrests and toes in teak, or solid walnut.
The seat and back are available upholstered in a range of fabric and leathers. Please click on the fabric name below for images and fabric codes. When placing an order, please specify both the fabric name and number in the text box above.
