Alvar Aalto was one of the founders of Artek and he is recognised today as one of the great masters of modern architecture. Aalto began designing furnishings as a natural and important extension of his architectural thinking. A spokesman for the modernist movement, he was also known for his experimental approach to bending wood, which is exemplified in the design of the 402 armchair.

Hella Jongerius’ reinterpretation of Alvar Aalto armchairs and stools is the beginning of a new collaboration on a crisp and tactile collection of Artek classics.
