Triennale pendant light by Tapio Wirkkala for Artek.
Wirkkala was keen to follow the production process beyond the drawing and liked "to be involved in the whole working process in which the object achieves its final shape". Most of the 100 or so lamps that Wirkkala designed were conceived between 1959 and 1961.
However the Triennale light is one of the earlest designs, dating 1951. The conical piece is a turn-moulded opalescent glass pendant, which was originally made for the Finnish Pavilion at the Milan Triennale.
