CH23 Dining Chair

CH23 Dining Chair by Hans Wegner for Carl Hansen and Son

The CH23 is a wooden dining chair with paper cord seat, designed by Hans Wegner in 1950, at the same time as his famous Wishbone chair. The CH23 is part of a set of four chairs that Wegner designed as his first collection for Carl Hansen, and was the best seller when the chairs were first released. It has been out of production since the 1960s but relaunched again by Carl Hansen in 2017.

The CH23 is an armless dining chair that has a cover-cap detail where the backrest meets the frame. The chair can be specified in contrasting wood (oak/walnut) to make the detail stand out more. The seat is double woven from papercord in a process that takes an experienced weaver 1.5 hours, which makes the seat extremely durable.
