Kishu Binchotan charcoal filter by Kenkawai
Mineralize and purify tap water with the Kishu Binchotan charcoal filter from Kenkawai. Hand-crafted from the slow-growing Japanese holm oak found in the Kishu region, this natural filter features a finely pored high-density structure which absorbs chemicals and lime present in water. It balances the pH level and softens the water making it perfect for drinking. Just leave the charcoal inside the water for 1-2 hours. It also captures odour and can also be used as an air filter.
Binchotan charcoal is made from the slow-growing Japanese holm oak. Craftsmen in Kishu have perfected the manufacturing process over generations, the charcoal baked over several days at low temperatures and then at high temperature with limited presence of oxygen. The charcoal is then extinguished using white ash to trap the carbon.
The charcoal needs to be rinsed and boiled for 10 minutes before use. After 1-2 months, cook the charcoal in boiling water to reactivate the charcoal. The charcoal has a life span of 4-6 months and should be replaced after this period. At the end of its lifecycle, it can be used a fertilizer.
The charcoal stick fits into a variety of bottles or carafes with wide necks. (Please note the bottle is not included)
