Little Sun Diamond solar lamp by Olafur Eliasson and Frederik Ottesen for Little Sun.

Little Sun Diamond is an innovative solar light source emerging from a collaboration between artist Olafur Eliasson and engineer Frederik Ottesen. The Little Sun project aims to increase access to affordable and sustainable light in parts of the world where there is no electricity supply.

Each purchase of a Little Sun light enables the distribution of the same light to an off-grid community in Africa at an affordable price. Importantly, Little Sun's social enterprise model means that instead of simply handing out the lights to communities in need, it trains local people to set up their own distribution systems and in this way nurtures small businesses.

The battery of this pocket-sized solar light has a five year lifetime when used daily.

To charge the light place the light in the sunlight, cell facing upwards. Five hours of charge provides bright light for five hours (22lm), fading to long-lasting soft light.

The stand turns this portable light into a handy desk light and reading light. To detach the stand, carefully pull it from the holes on either side, one side at a time.

Press the button once to turn the light on or off.

The original Little Sun light has been added to the permanent design collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris and was nominated for the London Design Museum's Designs of the Year Award.
