Designed in 1954 by Herbert Hirche, the DHS10 shelving system embodied utilitarian simplicity and precision, proving to be a notable milestone in the history of German industrial design and influencing the future design of many storage solutions. The entirely functional design anticipated needs for domestic and office environments with thoughtfully detailed construction and materials.
The system comprises tubular steel 'ladder' side elements which can be fitted with shelves, back panels or cabinet units to create a free-standing unit. The system offers complete flexibility, allowing the consumer to configure different heights and exposed or enclosed storage to create the desired shelving unit.
Originally produced by Christian Holzäpfel KG, the DHS10 has been reintroduced by Richard Lampert, joining other Hirche classics in his collection, each honouring the original entirely in principle and design.
The side elements are available in four heights while extension units can be added to the base unit to create further shelving.
The tubular steel side elements are powder coated in white, grey or black. The shelves and the cabinets are made from 16mm birch plywood and 16mm MDF boards respectively. Both are available in natural oak veneer with a transparent lacquer finish, or open lacquer finish in white, grey or black.
