Viggo Boesen

Viggo Boesen trained as an architect in his home country, Denmark and is recognised as introducing 'Funkis' style (an abbreviation of the Swedish word "funktionalism") into the design world.

Boesen believed furniture design should have an organic flow that embraces the body tenderly and that furniture should be a delight to the eye as well as solid and durable.

Inspired by a design competition held by the Danish wicker-maker guild in 1936, Viggo Boesen embarked on rattan furniture design combining modernist style with the hard wear qualities of the rattan material. Boesen's FOX lounge chair went on to win the competition. His inspiring, imaginative designs made him unique and put him among the designers of the “Danish golden age”.
