Cutter Bench, 1999

Cutter Bench by Niels Hvass for Fritz Hansen.

Niels Hvass originally designed the Cutter bench for Walk the Plank, the Danish Museum of Art and Design's annual exhibition showcasing the skill of contemporary furniture designers and cabinet makers.

This distinctive minimal design exemplifies the classic tradition of Scandinavian craftsmanship while having at the same time been influenced by the Bauhaus.

Of his design, Niels Hvass says: "The bench radiates unrivalled simplicity. The precision-made bars merge with the coherent design in sublime harmony.”

The initial project subsequently developed into a family of functional furniture and storage elements, sharing a distinctive detailing that exposes their precise construction. The Cutter collection includes a bench, wheeled storage boxes and wall mounted shelf with hooks and hangers that can be grouped or bought individually.

Available in three finishes.
