Nelson Lantern Bubble Pendant

Nelson Lantern Bubble Pendant by George Nelson for HAY.

Introducing the timeless Nelson Lantern Bubble Pendant designed by renowned American designer George Nelson. Designed in 1947 and introduced in 1952, these revolutionary modernist lighting fixtures continue to captivate with their elegant and organic shapes.

Inspired by luxurious silk-covered Swedish pendant lamps, Nelson ingeniously utilized a cost-effective solution: a self-webbing plastic spray originally developed by the U.S. military. By applying this translucent polymer over a lightweight rounded-steel frame, he achieved a stunning combination of soft, glowing illumination and unique aesthetics.

The pendant features a steel-wire skeleton coated with the translucent plastic polymer, resulting in a captivating interplay between opacity and transparency when lit.

The Bubble pendant has earned a permanent place in the prestigious collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The Bubble Pendant collection comprises a series of organic shapes and sizes. See 'More products in this range' below.

Manufactured by Herman Miller and distributed in the UK by HAY.
