Finn Juhl
Finn Juhl (1912-1989) was a pioneer of Danish architectural and interior design and is widely acknowledged to be the first designer to bring Danish Modern concepts to America.
Born in Fredriksberg, Denmark, Juhl studied architectural design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and spent a decade as an architect before turning his attention to interior and furniture design.
Like many of his contemporaries, Juhl rejected the decadence and ornate weight of traditional furniture designs, opting instead for a light, on-trend approach. Despite his early efforts being lambasted by critics, Juhl soon found popularity in a market hungry for modern designs.
From the Pelican chair to the 57 sofa, Juhl's iconic designs share a playful aesthetic and a painstaking approach to comfort and quality.
A range of his designs are now produced under license by Danish furniture company Onecollection.
