The Whitworth

The Whitworth Institute and Park were established in 1889 in honour of Sir Joseph Whitworth, an industrialist. It is a collaborative space between the University of Manchester and the local community. Intending to provide everlasting enjoyment to the people of Manchester, it still upholds this objective today by serving as a hub for bringing together these two entities.

The Whitworth is home to an impressive collection of more than 60,000 works of art, textiles, and wallpapers spanning over 2,000 years. In addition to this constantly evolving collection, the Whitworth offers a variety of products, publications, and prints that allow the collection to be enjoyed outside of the gallery.
