Fritz Hansen
The Danish designer Fritz Hansen formed his company in 1872 when he started to produce cabinets. Within two years it is a flourishing workshop with quality the key to every design.
In the 1930s their practice is updated by Hansen's son Christian, who introduces steam bending beech as a technique, to create curvaceous and modern furniture.
As the workshop develops the Hansen family bring in Scandinavian designers for collaborative projects, these including Arne Jacobsen.
In 1979 the 107-year-old firm is bought from the Hansen Family by Skandinavisk Holding. Through substantial investments (acquisition of the minimalistic Kjærholm Collection, the KEVI collections and Munch Møbler) and thorough reconstruction work the new owner, Skandinavisk Holding, succeeds in strengthening Fritz Hansen and preparing the old company for the future.
