Cesca Chair | Bauhaus Era

Cesca Chair | Machine Woven | Bauhaus Era by Marcel Breuer for Knoll.

The Cesca Chair, originally named the B32, was designed by Marcel Breuer shortly after he departed from the Bauhaus in 1928. Following its release, it swiftly attained international acclaim due to its innovative cantilevered design, which creates the illusion of floating in mid-air, and its unique combination of industrial and natural materials.

Although Breuer designed the now iconic chair after leaving the Bauhaus, his principles of material innovation and design from the school laid the foundation for the chair's design. At the 2024 Salone del Mobile, Knoll introduced three new ultra-matte frame finishes for the Cesca chair, thoughtfully selected to reflect the Bauhaus school's aesthetic identity.

These finishes also align with early productions by Mies van der Rohe, the third and final director of the Bauhaus, which often featured frames painted in white and deep red.
